Dear Rauna lovers. I would like to take you with me with my restore project of one of my Rauna Leira II speakers.
At first I have some questions about the filter. I found a former post of Stormen about a upgrade of the crossover filter used in the Leira.

Image

I compared it with the filter in my Leira but it is different:

This is my filter:

This is the back side of the circuit board, I mirrored it!

My questions are:
The modification of the Rauna drawing (post Stormen) is a older or newer crossover than my current x-over?
In the meantime, is there a better design available for my current crossover for the Leira II?

The next post I will share photo's with you about the restoring process of the Leira's.

Regards from NL

Oké dear Rauna lovers, now I would like to show you the process of restoring....

The paint of the Rauna speakers is often a problem. The paint does not stick well on the concrete. Though not every speaker has this problem.

This is the problem:

Image

Below the white paint is another layer, probably a filler. I guess during the manufacturing process, after when the concrete came out of the mold, it was plastered first to close the little holes in the concrete.

Image

Probably after the plastering it the cabinet was sprayed with a filler which has a bit of a green colour. This is the layer below the white paint. I guess here is the problem of the poor attachment to the concrete.

First of course you have to remove the cover and the drivers. To remove the cover you have to remove the two plastic pins in the front. I wrapped thin wire (dental floss) around the plastic pin. With pulling the wire together with pushing with a table knife the two pins are removed and also the cover.
For removing the woofer you need to cut the silicone sealant behind the edge of the woofer. Start at the point where you can stick your thin knife behind the edge. At some places it is not possible, to tight against the concrete. Just cut round the edge. After this use a flat object, for example a table knife and put some pressure behind the edge of the woofer.

Take a picture of the wiring for correct replacing of the woofer.

For the tweeter, start in the top-middle where is some kind of a gap. Please take care while cutting the silicone sealant because of the wiring. I cut the thin wiring of the coil but I could solder it again. At the front you can see where the wiring is attached to the tweeter. Don't cut in this area.

Now I have to remove the white paint together with the layer below it. This job is very easy to do with a hot air paint stripper and a filling knife.

Image

I made a mistake. I underestimated the heat from the paint stripper for the Rauna sticker. Though keeping the paint stripper away from the wooden bottom, still the sticker is damaged. Better to cover the sticker first with some kind of tape I guess.

This is the result after stripping.

Next is to bring the Rauna Leira's to my friend Steven of mstm.nl where the cabinets are treated further...in my next post.

Very nice job indeed.
Regarding the filters its a bit of a djungle, since some drawings are for new wooferd and a 4" tweeter. But what I can recall the filter I posted is suppose to be working with the seas you got. I've a ended up adjusting anyway with the resistor.
Im more of "keeping the filter" as it is.
The road of changing a series filter and try to adjust is deep and full of grey hair and doubting moments. Wink
When you have walked that filter road for some years and a man walks up to you and askes, you say:. Keep it as it is Wink

Dear Stormen! Thank you, you made it clear for me! I keep it this way.

Now I would like to take you to the workshop of my friend Steven of MSTM.nl

These are the next proceedings:
1) Sanding
2) Spraying of filler (1st layer)
3) Filling with polyester filler (little holes etc)
4) Sanding
5) Spraying of filler (2nd layer)

(1) Sanding

Look at the wonderful wood. I think I will not paint this that black as original anymore.

(2) Spraying of filler

Here is a video of the spraying process.

These little holes have to be filled but also damaged area's have to be repaired.

Ready for the next treatment.

Does anyone know what the original colour number is?

In my next post you will see the next steps.
